What is
EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process and heal from trauma, anxiety, and other overwhelming experiences.
How Does it Work?
Sometimes painful memories or experiences can get ‘stuck,’ leaving you feeling on edge, anxious, or unable to fully move forward. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a leading research-supported therapy designed to help the brain reprocess those memories in a safe and structured way.
During EMDR, I will guide you through gentle eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation (such as auditory - with noises, or physical - with buzzers,) while you focus on a specific memory. This process helps your brain ‘unstick’ the memory, reducing the emotional intensity and allowing you to view it with more clarity and less distress. Many people find EMDR to be a powerful tool for healing from trauma, anxiety, and negative self-beliefs, making space for greater peace, resilience, and confidence in daily life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is EMDR right for me?
EMDR can be helpful if you’re struggling with painful memories, trauma, anxiety, or negative self-beliefs . It’s often used for people who have experienced big, "obvious" traumas, but it can also support healing from ongoing stress, relationship challenges, or critical inner voices. If you find that past experiences are affecting how you feel today, EMDR may be a powerful option for you.
Can EMDR be done online?
Yes! EMDR can be effectively provided through online therapy. At Glow Therapy Collective, I use tools designed for virtual EMDR sessions, so you can experience the benefits of this trauma-focused therapy from the comfort and privacy of your home in Florida or Georgia.
How many sessions will I need?
The length of EMDR therapy depends on your unique needs and history. Some people notice relief in just a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. I will collaborate with you to set goals and move at a pace that feels safe and manageable.
What does an EMDR session feel like?
During an EMDR session, you’ll focus on a specific memory or feeling while your therapist guides you through eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. Many clients describe the process as calming, and over time, the memory becomes less emotionally charged. You remain in control throughout the session, and I will work with you to ensure you feel grounded and supported at every step.
Is EMDR always a good idea?
Well, yes and no. EMDR has been studied to be effective with clients of all ages, of all neurotypes, and across all forms of trauma. However, because it can be an emotionally intense process, there are some situations where it might not be a good fit for you right now. One example of this can be if you are actively struggling with substance use and have not yet begun treatment for it. Another example is if you are struggling with active or severe suicidal ideation - although, in this case, it's likely that you may need a higher level of care than what outpatient can provide. If you have a dissociative disorder, EMDR is still an effective form of treatment, but it should be done by someone who has specific training. The good news is that if any of these situations should come up, we would work together to make sure you have the referrals and resources necessary. You are not alone!
